Sensex-Nifty closed at 3-month low
Massive selling was seen in the market today ahead of the Union Budget 2023 and the US Fed meeting. There was heavy selling in the market on the first day of February expiry and the Sensex-Nifty closed at a 3-month low. On the other hand, after March 7, 2022, a strong intra-day decline was observed at Nifty Bank. Nifty Bank closed today at 40361.15, down 1,286.50 points or 3.09%. In today’s trading, the energy and metals index fell about 5%. Although the auto and pharmaceutical index closed in the green, even in a falling market.
Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports, SBI, ICICI Bank and IndusInd Bank are the main losers from Nifty. While Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, ITC and Divis Laboratories are Nifty’s top earners. The PSU Bank, Oil & Gas, Power and Metal indices closed with losses of 4-6%. The BSE Midcap index closed 1.2% and the Smallcap index 1.8%.
At the end of the session, the Sensex closed at 59,330.90, down 874.16 points, or 1.45%. The Nifty closed at 17,604.35, down 287.60 points, or 1.61%.
