Why are the bike headlights always on now, is the mileage and battery life reduced? know the truth

highlights

Bike visibility is maintained by keeping the headlights on at all times.
The headlight always on does not affect the battery and mileage.
Many bikes are now fitted with LED DRLs as well.

New Delhi. From April 1, 2017, every new bike sold in the country will be delivered with the AHO system, ie with automatic headlight on function. Now the headlight of the bike and scooter is always on and the switch to turn it off on the handle has also been removed. Many people are always worried that keeping the headlight on all the time will consume more battery and wear out quickly.

At the same time, many people also believe that with the headlights always on, the mileage of the bicycle will also decrease. However, the truth of these two claims of the people is different.

What are the benefits of having the headlights always on?
The Union Department for Transport had recommended the introduction of Automatic Headlight Activation (AHO) in light of the increasing number of two-wheelers involved in traffic accidents. The main purpose of the Always-On headlight was to increase the visibility of the two-wheeler on the roads. In fact, in many countries of America and Europe, this rule has been in force for many years to increase the visibility of vehicles. Because of this, there has been a huge drop in traffic accidents due to poor visibility.

This is also the main reason behind the introduction of the automatic headlight function on two-wheelers in India. In fact, small vehicles are less visible on the road. In such a situation, if the vehicle comes from far away, it will not be detected. At the same time, small vehicles are not visible at all on the road due to bad weather or fog. In such a situation, the possibility of collision of vehicles increases. However, if the bike’s headlight is always on, its visibility remains and can be seen even from afar.

What happens in case of battery damage?
Many people believe that the bike with AHO uses more battery because the headlight is always on. As a result, the battery deteriorates quickly and has to be changed again and again. However, experts believe that constantly turning on the headlights on a bike with AHO does not affect the battery.

Advanced battery technologies and alternatives are used in today’s new bikes, which means that the battery does not suffer even as the load increases. The AHO system, on the other hand, does not affect the mileage of the bike. Now many bikes are equipped with LED DRL where the always-on LED light is replaced with the always-on LED light. They use less power than headlights and are visible from afar.
