According to the Association of Automobile Dealers, April saw a 1 percent drop in the number of cells compared to 2022. Although the figure of 1 percent may seem small to you, given the number, it is very high.
According to FADA President Manish Raj Singhania, 2,86,539 units were sold in April 2022. However, this sale reduced to 2,82,674 units in April 2023. This hasn’t just happened with cars. On the contrary, there has also been a clear decline in the sale of two-wheelers. According to the information, a decline of 7 percent was recorded for two-wheeler registrations. This number was 12,29,911 units in April 2023, while it was 13,26,773 units in April 2022.

On the other hand, there was growth in the commercial sector. Sales of tricycles increased by 57 percent. In April 2022, 45,114 were sold. And in April 2023, it rose to 70,928 units. In contrast, registrations of commercial vehicles increased by 2 percent. According to the information, there were 85,587 units last month and 83,987 units in April 2022.
Why did the cell fall?
According to Singhania, car prices were low until March and companies were giving heavy discounts to clear out old stock. However, after the introduction of the new emission standards (BS6 Phase 2) from April 1st, the prices for passenger cars have risen significantly. This was a major reason why sales of cars and two-wheelers fell.
Besides this, the limited supply of vehicles was also a reason and due to unusual rainfall, there was a big impact on the market activities. However, given the launch of numerous new vehicles in May, it can be expected that the automobile market will regain momentum.
