The Transportation Department confiscates vehicles involved in commercial activities
Bicycle taxis have been banned in the state capital because of similar problems.
New Delhi. After Delhi, bicycle taxis may close in Noida, another city in the National Capital Region (NCR). The district administration has started to prepare for this. The Ministry of Transport is planning a control campaign for registered bicycle taxis in the city and on the outskirts. Data from the Department of Transportation shows there are 2,446 registered pedicabs in the county. The move to run the campaign was taken following allegations that privately owned numbered bicycles were being used as taxis.
According to the regulations, a bicycle taxi must be commercially licensed and have a yellow license plate. According to the Economic Times report, Siyaram Verma, deputy regional transport officer in Gautam Budh Nagar, said the transport department had received several complaints that private bicycles were being used as taxis. He said: “The Transportation Department will take action and confiscate such vehicles involved in commercial activities.

Pedicab banned in Delhi
On February 21, the Delhi government banned bicycle taxis in the national capital over similar problems. The Delhi Ministry of Transport said two-wheeled vehicles with non-transport (private) registered numbers cannot be used to carry passengers under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. Earlier last month, the Supreme Court refused to grant a pedicab aggregator relief from the Maharashtra government’s denial of a license.
For this reason, the bicycle taxi can be closed
A delegation from the Noida Auto Drivers Union had recently complained to the Department of Transport, claiming that privately owned bicycles being used as taxis are hurting their business. Chaudhary Om Prakash Gurjar, President of the Noida CNG Auto Drivers Association, said: “Because bike taxis are a cheap mode of transport. Many people choose them. We’ve seen some people start using private bikes as taxis. Such bikers wait for passengers in front of several subway stations and receive bookings via mobile apps. This affects our business. It’s also illegal.” He also claimed that many of these pedicabs are registered outside of Noida.
