New registration stopped in Chandigarh by Petrol Bike and Scooter, only allow electric two wheelers

highlights

The policy was formulated without thinking about the practical constraints.
How can the administration force the sale to be 35 percent?
Currently there are very few public charging stations in the city, most are closed.

Electric vehicles: If you are planning to buy a bike or scooter then be careful. Especially if you live in Chandigarh, do not buy a petrol two wheeler for the time being as hundreds of customers are already in trouble. According to sources, the Chandigarh government has banned two-wheelers that run on petrol. Because of this, the problems of such customers who recently bought new two-wheelers have increased.

According to the notification from the Registration and Licensing Authority (RLA), new registrations of petrol two-wheelers were closed from February 10 for this fiscal year ending in March. Now buyers of two-wheelers do not receive a copy of the high-security number plate and the registration certificate. The reason is that the traders cannot complete the registration process on the Vahan portal.

Traders asked questions about politics
Now the traders of Chandigarh believe that the administration’s decision was hasty. People who have already bought their two-wheeler or are about to buy it are now stuck, while two-wheelers are also a source of employment for many people. Traders say the policy was drawn up without thinking about the practical constraints. If the production of electric two-wheelers is not 35 percent of the total volume of two-wheelers, how can the administration enforce that sales should be 35 percent? Apart from that, there are currently very few public charging stations in the city, most of which are not working either.

The Dealers Association reached the High Court
As part of the EV policy introduced in September 2022, the UT administration will stop registering non-electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers from fiscal year 2024-25 (April 2024). After last year’s 65 percent registration of gasoline two-wheelers was completed, the administration stopped registration of non-electric two-wheelers from February 10 for this fiscal year. The Federation of Automotive Dealers Association (FADA) has asked the Supreme Court to review the directive.
