India’s “Desi” company rules the electric two-wheeler market, no one comes close in terms of sales

New Delhi. Ola Electric has gained great popularity in India in a very short period of time. Its popularity can be seen in the sales of the company’s scooters. Information on the sale of electric two-wheelers was obtained from the VAHAN portal of the Government of India. These numbers are valid until April 6th.

Ola Electric: 21,308 units
Ola led the market for the seventh consecutive month, registering 21,308 units in March 2023. That’s a lot higher than last month’s number. This is also the first time Ola has surpassed 20,000 units in one month. However, the company claims to have sold over 27,000 units of the S1 range of e-scooters.

TVS: 15,364 units
There’s a huge gap between the next best TVS – its iQube range of e-scooters. However, TVS has improved its February 2023 numbers (12,573 units), and its flagship iQube ST is expected to go on sale soon.

Etheric Energy: 12,081 units
Ather Energy continues to improve its monthly sales and has improved from February 2023 sales (10,013 units). While the company claims to have sold 11,354 units in March 2023, the VAHAN portal shows registrations of 12,081 units.

Amps: 9,336 units
Ampere, a subsidiary of Greaves, has reported significant growth in numbers for March 2023 compared to around 5,000 units sold in February of this year. The new e-scooter Primus is the first own offer.

Hero Electric: 6,656 units
While Hero Electric has improved its February 2023 numbers (5,861 units), those are nowhere near the five-digit numbers the market leader averaged a few months ago. With the end of FAME II funding, the number of companies has risen sharply.

Okinawa Autotech: 4,508 units
Similar to Hero Electric, Okinawa Autotech has also removed its FAME II subsidy, which has led to a drop in sales. The manufacturer banned 4,508 registrations in March, which is more than the 3,842 units sold in February 2023.

Chetak: 2,342 units
Bajaj sold a total of 2,342 units of its Chetak electric scooter in March 2023, down from February’s figure of 1,314 units. The company recently lowered prices, expanded the range and launched a new variant of the Chetak, which should boost sales of the e-scooter in the coming months. The Chakan-based manufacturer is also in the process of setting up a dedicated showroom for the Chetak.
