New Delhi. Ather Energy released sales figures for June 2023. The company sold 6,479 electric scooters last month, posting a 101% year-over-year increase in sales. However, compared to May, there has been an enormous drop in sales. In May, the company sold 15,256 electric scooters. The company reported a 57.53% drop in sales.
According to sources, Ather said in a statement that the company shipped 6,479 scooters to customers as of June 2023. The company said there has been a huge drop in scooter sales over the last month. However, the company expects sales to return to their normal pace in the coming 2-3 months.
Why the sudden drop in sales?
We tell you that the reduction of the FAME 2 subsidy has affected the sales of all electric scooter manufacturers. The central government has cut subsidies for two-wheel electric vehicles from June 1, 2023. Because of this, customers flocked to buy electric scooters in May, and sales from all companies surged. However, the negative impact of the subsidy cut was reflected in sales in June.
Let’s say that not only Ather but all companies like Ola Electric, TVS, Hero Electric, Okinawa and Ampere saw a sudden sales boom in June. As for Ola, where the company sold 28,617 scooters in May, the company was only able to sell 14,000 scooters in June. TVS iQube sold 20,396 units in May, while June sales fell to just 5,253 units.
As for Ather, the company’s 450X electric scooter has gone up Rs 30,000 in price after the subsidy cut. Now the price of this electric scooter starts at 1.49 lakh rupees (ex showroom).
