Onion Prices: Onion has become an international sensation this time. While onion prices have fallen drastically in India, onion prices are skyrocketing in many countries. In neighboring Pakistan itself, onions are not sold for Rs. 40-50 per kg, but for over Rs. 250 per kg. Consumers are happy because onions are cheaper in the country, but the farmers who grow them are in tears. Also recently surprising news of a farmer (Onion Farmers) who received Rs 2 after selling 512 kg of onions in Maharashtra. Retail onion prices are also very low this time. While farmers are definitely sad, there is good news for onion consumers and customers that post-Holi onions are likely to become even cheaper.

If you believe the jobbers from Azadpur Mandi from Delhi, then the onion arrival is very high this time. The onion harvest this time was very good. In Azadpur Mandi alone, 50 to 60 trucks with onions arrive every day. 1500 tons of onions come in these trucks. Which is consumed in the environment. Onions are cheap this time, but after March 15, onions can be very cheap.

Rajendra, an onion trader in Azadpur Mandi, says the Kharif Red Onion harvest is coming in abundance this time in Azadpur Mandi in Delhi. Onions from different regions have different prices. The onion from the next Rajasthan is sold at a price of 4-6 rupees per kg. On the other hand, onions from Maharashtra’s Nashik, MP, Gujarat are sold at 8-12 rupees per kg. Onion trader Akhil Gupta in Azadpur Mandi says onions are already cheap this time, which is making farmers suffer. However, after Holi, after March 15, new onions of the Rabi crop will also arrive, which are of very good quality and do not spoil quickly. In such a situation, a new onion will appear on the market, due to its arrival, the stock of red onions that are now being sold will be quickly removed, therefore the onion price will decrease.

The one that comes after Holi is the garba bulb that is stored. Garba onion is the best, it doesn’t spoil quickly. Because of this, it takes several months. It is used from March to September-October. In the meantime, an onion gets caught in the rain, but it spoils quickly.

Agents Akhil and Rajendra say that the farmers are not getting the right price for onions. Customers benefit from high onion supplies and low prices, but farmers suffer losses. The country’s onion production is high, but the freeze on exports to Bangladesh etc. from February 15 has also had an impact. Onion consumption is lower in the country. At the same time, the production of the upcoming new onion is also expected. In such a situation, onions will remain cheap for months to come.
