Rajdoot bikes: After India’s independence, the trend towards bicycle and car increased in India. Many foreign companies, including Hindustan Motors, also entered the country in the auto market. If we talk about bikes then companies like Yezdi and Royal Enfield had also started to establish their presence in it. In the midst of all this came such an exotic bike that people really liked. Great actors and cricketers of that time rode this bike, but suddenly something happened due to which this bike was discontinued in India.

The bike we’re talking about here today is the Ambassador. For a few years after independence, the trend towards fast bikes in India was very small. Meanwhile, Polish company Escort Group has redesigned its SHL 11 and launched it in India, naming it Ambassador. It was a fast bike. It was designed to drive on Indian roads. However, the bike doesn’t get a lot of feedback initially. The maximum speed of this motorcycle was 150 km/h. It could accelerate from 0 to 60 km in just 4 seconds.

The company breathed a sigh of relief for a while, but after a few years the sales of the Ambassador dropped again. After that, the company retired the model and made preparations for launching the new model. For this, Escort teamed up with Yamaha of Japan. After that, both companies jointly launched a new bike based on Indian conditions, where many changes were made. This also reduced costs significantly. After that, this bike reached every village in the country. It was easy to drive even on bad roads. The Indian government also bought some bikes and gave them to the forest and health department.

In the 1990s, the company’s sales began to decline as many companies had entered the Indian market during that period. These companies made cheap and better bikes. Despite being a racing bike, the Ambassador lacked many safety features. This increased the number of accidents. Fear spread among the people and the ambassador’s popularity in India continued to decline. Aside from that, the parts of the bike were also not readily available due to the lack of good service from the company. The company ceased production in 1991.
