Why Mahindra fails in the two-wheeler segment of the automotive industry’s comeback with the most demanding motorcycles like Jawa Yezdi

Today, Mahindra is the leading company in the SUV, agricultural and commercial vehicle segments of the automotive industry in India. Its vehicles like Mahindra Scorpio, Thar and Bolero are popular across India. There was a time when Mahindra tried its hand at the two-wheeler segment after the success in the passenger car segment, but although it was the most reliable company, people didn’t like its bikes. After a few years, Mahindra withdrew from this segment and ceased production of the motorcycle.

Today we learn how Mahindra failed in the two-wheeler segment. What was the reason for this? At the same time, we’ll share how Mahindra today is competing with Royal Enfield, the country’s largest premium bicycle manufacturer, with Jawa and Yezdi bicycles.

Mahindra didn’t give up here and launched a line of bikes.

Mahindra had launched many bikes
In 2008, Mahindra entered the two-wheeler segment after purchasing Kinetic Motor. A few years later, Mahindra launched two new commuter bikes, the Centuro and the Pantero. Both bikes were equipped with many modern features for the time. In addition, these bikes were very affordable in the segment. Despite all this, it could not achieve anything special in the market. Eventually, Mahindra stopped making this bike. Although the company also launched a sports bike afterwards, that didn’t do much either and fared too much like the first two bikes. Mahindra didn’t give up here and launched many bikes, but the Indian market didn’t like Mahindra’s bikes.

The company failed because of this
There were new reasons for this failure of Mahindra. These bikes had many technical issues that Mahindra was unable to fix over time. Bad marketing and advertising were also a major reason. If we talk about the biggest reason, it was Mahindra choosing the wrong segment. In fact, the commuter segment bike that the company launched has already been ruled by the likes of Hero, Bajaj, and Honda. Because of this, Mahindra bikes could not find a place in people’s hearts. By the time of 2019, Mahindra bikes were starting to disappear from the streets. Later the company decided to close this store.

Now the bike rocks again
As you can see, this was not the end of Mahindra in the two-wheeler market. This time, Mahindra is back with even more vigour, although the company has not entered the commuter segment, but rather the premium bike segment. For this, Mahindra has teamed up with Jawa, Yezdi and BSA through his own company Classic Legend. All these three were very popular brands of their time that had disappeared from India. Jawa and Yezdi wheels were very popular in India. That’s why the company decided to launch these old-look bikes with new engines. In modern times, Jawa and Yezdi together give Royal Enfield stiff competition. Thousands of bicycles are sold daily by both companies.
