New Delhi. To encourage electric vehicle manufacturing in the country, the central government provides incentives under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME-2) program. This incentive is designed to increase the business of electric vehicle manufacturers and equipment manufacturers in the country and curb the import of equipment from abroad. However, the central government found seven companies in the country that make electric two-wheelers are in breach of the regulations, prompting the government to prepare to reclaim Rs.469 crore from them.

The government issued a notice stating that these companies would be withdrawn from the FAME 2 program within the next 7 to 10 days. Investigations have shown that these companies benefited from the regulation in the last financial year and thus violated the FAME 2 rules.

What is the matter?
The central government gives EV manufacturing companies production incentives to use Indian-made components. A report submitted to the Central Committee found that seven companies producing electric two-wheelers used equipment imported from outside, while the investigation found six companies were innocent. Now the government will take action against the companies that violate the incentive rules.

The report said companies found guilty include manufacturers such as Okinawa, Hero Electric, Ampere, Revolt Motor, Lohia Auto, Benling India and Amo Mobility. The government will recover a total of Rs. 469 crore from these seven companies. Two of those companies have pledged to the government that they will repay the stimulus amount along with the notification.
